Denver based artist CØNTRA, has always had a passion for creating and performing music. He started early, learning violin at age 4 and then going on to become an accomplished heavy metal guitarist in high school. After his first rave he became fascinated with the limitless boundaries of electronic music and was inspired by early innovators such as CASPA, RUSKO and LIQUID STRANGER. Now with 12 years of production experience and a cutting-edge DJ set incorporating live violin and vocals we welcome CØNTRA to WHEEL & DEAL RECORDS. ‘LOST IN THE EAST’ kicks off the EP with haunting Eastern vocals, ghostly Sitar and slowed down breaks. The drop comes big and bold with distorted and filtered bass, swinging percussion and distant melodies. This has become a staple in N-TYPE’S DJ sets and has the ability to rock a rave or vibes out to on the radio. ‘LOST IN THE EAST’ has current support from SUKH KNIGHT, DEEP TEMPO, YOUNGSTA, D FUSE and FORTIESFIELD. ‘303 CHONKER’ comes harder and more stepping with massive distorted bass and ‘Hip-Hop esq’ FX and stabs. This has been getting support from the likes of TERNION SOUND, DISTINCT MOTIVE, CHEFAL, N-TYPE, MINTY and MUHLA. This one is built for the dance floor and has been proven to smash a rave. ‘SERAPHIM FEAT MORNING HIGH’ So CØNTRA originally heard MORNING HIGH on a ‘DANK N’ DIRTY DUBZ’ release and saw that he moved out to Denver so they linked up at his studio and SERAPHIM is what came together. The intro kicks off with signature Eastern vibes and vocals leading to thunderous sub and wobbling mids. The melodies and percussion build and develop throughout making this a highly musical experience leaning on the classic style of DUBSTEP. ‘GANJA GREMLIN FEAT THE WIDDLER’ carrying the EP title, the name ‘GANJA GREMLIN’ came to be after CØNTRA made a poll post on Facebook to see the most bizarre word for “one who smokes weed.” The collaboration came about by CØNTRA and THE WIDDLER’S similar taste of sound. CØNTRA says “The tune really transformed quite a bit from the original idea and I learned a lot during the whole process. It was really fun working with someone I’ve looked up to for years”. This track kicks off dark and spacious leading into a hard hitting bubbler of a tune perfect for Festivals to club nights and appeals to a broad range of Dubstep heads.
